Great question about how to reach the keys... I'll tell you the two ways I do it.
1. I have a desktop keyboard. The first way is to move my right hand to the NumPad and press and hold the Zero/Insert Key with my thumb. 2. Then with my left thumb on the Windows Key, rather than the ALT Key, I reach up with left index finger to find the F4 Key and press. The second option. Since I always run JAWS with Laptop Layout (even when on a desktop keyboard), I can press the CapsLock and WinKey with the left hand, and use my right hand to locate and press the F4 Key. HTH. It would be potentially very helpful to contact the Support department and offer the Dump File with an explanation of what you were doing when it the loss of speech occurred and how often you are seeing this. These issues are difficult to track down as they happen randomly and most certainly have something to do with JAWS interacting with UIA from Windows.
