I'm really suggesting you try a combination of these ideas. But you would use the pass-through key to precede any command that isn't acting the way you want.

In that case, Jonathan Mosen suggested trying shift-alt-a. that key combination is probably specific to WordPress, but maybe not. WordPress solved this problem in the past year or so by enabling just about all formatting in Word, including links, to carry through to the WordPress website.
