I see the confusion. Unlike in Word 2010, JAWS never speaks the "select word," "Select sentence," etc. commands as you cycle through the F8 options while in Word 2016, at least on my system. Yes, it's a Word command. However, after I've been up and running for a while, the commands stop functioning. I'm assuming the problem lies with the interaction between Word 2016 and JAWS, but I could be wrong.

Selecting from the beginning of the line to the end: Shift + End / 1 on the NumPad. Selecting more than 1 line of text, if the sentence is more than 1 line: Hold the Shift key down while arrowing up or down until you have selected/highlighted the lines you want. Take care.
