These instructions also work for older versions of MS Word. In my 2010, the
application key does work.
But to respond to Adrian's first suggestion, here's something for all
Window-Eyes users who migrated to JAWS who were used to the window's status
being spoken in the title bar. Windows key up-arrow will maximize the
window, as well as the older way of alt-spacebar, followed by x, but if you
want to quickly check the status of the window, as we could have in
Window-Eyes, JAWS gives that information in the JAWS Task List.
Start JAWS Task List. JAWS Key + F10

Opens the Window List dialog where you can view and switch between running
applications.
It also, conveniently, smile, tells you the status of the window, if the
keyboard operator can remember to check there. LOL.

keys

Hi, Lawrence.

The first thing I'd suggest is that you confirm your MS Word window is
maximized by pressing alt-space, then x. that may give you the information
you want in that status bar.

If not, here are instructions I copied from a lister on another list. I've
just confirmed that they work in Word 2016, which I now use.

Joseph the Free Tech guy. To show number of lines, line number, or many
other options in the status bar in Word:
1. Press F6 until Status bar is highlighted. Or, until you hear Jaws report,
Status Toolbar. It should be the 2nd press of the F6 key.
2. Press Shift + F10 to show options. This keystroke must be used because a
right mouse click or the application key will not.
3. Down arrow through the available options, and when you have found line
count or something else of interest press the spacebar to check or uncheck
the item.
4. when done making modifications simply press AltF4 or escape key.
5. Review your status line to insure the settings have been properly
modified.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Using Microsoft Word 2016 and needing combonation keys

Greeting Jaws Users

In some of the older versions of Microsoft Word such as 2003 to acquire page
number and line number one would press the comination keys (down page key
and jaws key)

I've recently acquired Microsoft 2016 and need this information. Can some
one provide the current combination keys.

Thanks In advance for any assistance.
