It's always there for me, but I too have made changes to File Explorer. I forget about shift-tabbing. My hands type the control-f for find out of habit. Whatever works! Yes, that's true. Actually after I wrote the last message, I wondered if some of the tweaks I did to Windows 10 made that search box appear by default, whereas others have to issue the find command in order to get it. I do not play with enough other peoples' machines to know whether this is the case, and I honestly don't remember anymore. But you're right, we are indeed talking about the same search box, whether it's there all the time as in my case, or whether you need to press f3 to get it to appear. -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Rebecca Lineberger Sent: June 1, 2018 3:25 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] file manager Again, you're right. But I think we're talking about the same thing. Smile. In documents, if I shift-tab back twice, I get to the search box. So it's a question of what your hands find easier, shift-tab back or to press f3 or control-f. You'll be in an edit box from which you can search either way. Again, Microsoft has provided us with its usual plethora of choices. -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of JM Casey Sent: Friday, June 01, 2018 3:12 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] file manager Hi Rebecca and all. Well, now it's my turn to clarify. I do not precisely mean the start menu search, but the one in file explorer. You will see it if you shift-tab back from the folder tree. It works similar to the start menu search in that results are populated without the need to press enter, but it will ineed still show details if you have that radio button checked, since the list view that's populated is exactly the same one as you normally see in file explorer, just using your search criteria to narrow down what is shown. -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Rebecca Lineberger Sent: June 1, 2018 3:05 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] file manager Smile. You're correct. However, and I should have clarified this, if you search from the start menu search box, you're given no information about the results by date, type, size and path. If you right arrow, there's silence. I'm a details freak, LOL, and I want this information. JMO. If you don't care, and many people don't, then search from the start menu. -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of JM Casey Sent: Friday, June 01, 2018 2:44 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] file manager Right. I am not very familiar with Windows 7 because I only used it for a brief time at work. However I just wanted to add that in Win 10 at least, you don't even need to use the find command, because the search box is right there in your explorer window, ready to help you narrow down your file list. I just tested it myself by putting *.txt in the search box for my documents folder. All .docx, .pdf and other files disappeared from the list, and it automatically shows subfolders as well. -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Rebecca Lineberger Sent: June 1, 2018 2:28 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] file manager Again, perhaps this is not what you're looking for. If you open your documents folder in Windows 10, and earlier versions too, you can do a find command Control-f Or F3 And simply type the file extension you're looking for with the period before the letters:. For example: .docx (note: d o c x) .jpg .txt No need to press enter. The results just appear and you can arrow down through them and delete one by one or select as usual and delete. HTH. In essence, there shouldn't really be a need for an external file manager. But maybe if you explain exactly what it is you want to do, it will be more clear what steps you should take. -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of JM Casey Sent: June 1, 2018 1:46 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] file manager Hi. Perhaps I'm not understanding something in this request, but you mentioned DoS, so why don't you just use command line to do this? del *.dat, del j?????.txt, etc, etc, still works just as well as it did in 1992. :) -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of leonard morris Sent: May 31, 2018 10:42 PM To: Jaws Subject: [JAWS-Users] file manager I am using the latest jaws 2018 and windows 7.
