Hi, I do not know, but Avast just doesn't slow down the system at all, even if you do a thorough scan. For example, I could be scanning my computer with Avast and talk to you on MSN at the same time. Couldn't do this with AVG without a loss in performance. Avast also provides more and possibly better protection than AVG, for example it protects you from viruses/worms from places like Instant Messaging clients, P2P File Sharing clients, web browsers, etc. Hope that helps.
