Hello Cathie.  Here are the steps I use.  Other list members may have 
different approaches.

1.  Open your Desktop.
2.  Press F5 which will free the cursor from locking onto any particular 
icon.
3.  Press Alt F.  You should hear  "New"  If you do, go to the next step.
4.  Press Enter on that prompt and the first choice should be Folder
4A.  If you don't hear "New"  then down arrow and you should hear it as the 
first choice.
5.  XP  will create a folder called "New Folder"  and place your cursor in 
that field.
6.  Press Home  and then either press Delete which will remove the title or 
press End which will highlight the title.
7.  Type in your new folder name and press Enter.

That's it Cathie.

Some comments though.  Pressing that F5 key is vital. It's the only way to 
access that New  menu.
