Candy, I do use Napster with Jaws all of the time. It takes some getting
used to but it works just fine, especially the newest version. The key is
to use the right mouse button. Usually, most of the functions you need are
right there.

Now as for Napster itself, you don't have to join on a monthly basis.
There's something called Napster Light which charges only for the songs you
download.

Now before I get in trouble with the Jaws police, here's my take on the
compatibility of Jaws with Napster. This company made a quiet but effective
effort to make their software compatible with screen readers. It works just
fine with Jaws. As far as the dialog boxes, you don't even have to turn on
Forms Mode. You will have to use the Jaws cursor a bit from time to time.
Clicking on the songs of your choice from a list is one way to make good use
of the Jaws cursor. Also, it's very helpful to use the Graphics labeling
feature which allows you to put a tag on some of the numbered symbols.
Finally, the primary page is almost always the same. So you can use Place
Markers to get your cursor right into the first option. That would be
choosing what kind of search you will need:
ARTIST
TRACK
ALBUM
ALL:
You'll have to play around with this a bit but Napster is well worth the
$0.99 per song they charge. You can't beat that price with a stick.
Albums are about $5.00. Try finding a CD for that price.
You'll have to use all of your Jaws knowledge to get the best out of Napster
but I recommend the service highly for Jaws users.

One more thing. Be very careful about using these so-called "free services"
any more. Many people have been fined for "illegal downloading" and so on.
I know one DJ who had to pay several thousand dollars in penalties for
using one of those services. The government had a list of every song he
ever downloaded, the times, dates and everything. They made him pay for
every song and added a hefty penalty.
