Hello Patricia. I'm referring to the key stroke, Alt Insert Down Arrow.
In your User Options for Jaws, you will find Say All Options. That is a
separate dialog containing quite a few things. Basically, with Jaws 8 and
above, a separate voice can be chosen which will read text, e-mail and so on
when the Say All key stroke is chosen. Normally, without any changes, your
particular voice, probably Reed, will read everything you ask him to.
However, if you want to, you can choose another voice entirely to read your
Word documents or your e-mail messages. In Jaws, each program has its own
configuration files. If no configuration has been set up, Jaws will revert
to the settings saved in the Default file. If, for example, you go into the
User options while in Outlook Express, you can change the Say All voice to
quite a few different selections. As I recall, Jaws 8 comes with Tom,
Amanda, Emily, Lee, Karen and so on. Some of the voices are American while
others speak in an English accent. There are also choices like Paulina who
speak with a Spanish accent. If you haven't set up your Say All options,
then Jaws will, as I have described above, revert to the Default setting
which makes no separate changes for the Say All voice.
I hope that this makes things a bit clearer for you. Some people never
change their Say All voice and just keep using Reed. To me, Reed is pretty
good. You'd have to go a long way to find anything better.
I purchased a new voice from a web site called Nextup.
Here's the site. HTTP://WWW.NEXTUP.COM
You can buy different voices for a program called Text Aloud. That program
will read anything at all in text form. The voices are very good indeed.
Once you have loaded them, Jaws can also access those voices as well as the
ones it comes with.
This is all interesting Patricia if that's what you want to do. If you're
not interested in getting that deep into configuring Jaws, don't let it
bother you. Just keep doing what you're doing and you'll have no problems.
