Hi Dale, The scripts add more functionality to the program, such as talking caller I.D. when someone calls you, letting you know who has signed in and out, the ability for you to use the instant messaging portion of the program, being able to browse the different tabs of the program, and various other things that you can do with Skype, but are too numerous to list here.
While you can use the scripts that come readily installed with Jaws, the newer versions available from David's site do what I said above, and more, but again, these are luxuries that can be left alone if you don't use those particular features I've mentioned above. However, whether you download the scripts or not, you still do have to change that setting in the options/preferences to use global shortcut keys, otherwise the alt-page up and page down won't work for you when you answer and hang up a call, respectively.
