Hi, To call, just hit enter on the contact, and to end the call, escape. If you're using the stable version anyway. If you're using the beta, and yes, I am using it, press space on the contact in the list and enter to star a call, and to hang up, go to the live conversations list (one tab away from the contact list, or control 2 with the skype 4 scripts installed) then applications key on the conversation, and down arrow to or press h a couple times for hang-up.
The reason you have to manually select contacts is skype opens a new chat thing at the bottom of the window whenever you select a contact.
