Alt-tabbing brings an opened program into focus, so it is naturally better than just pressing alt-F4 alone. you could try Windows key, then u, to get into the ShutDown menu; and then arrow to the choice you want. before that, it's a good idea to close programs you will no longer be using when you've finished with them. Now, if there's a problem with a program during the shut down windows will prompt you with "this program is not responding; click End Task to shut it down anyway", etc.

Hi everyone; I have XP home and 9.0. When I shut down the computer, I hit the alt F4 buttons. I get a message that says no window is active. It seems to take a long time to properly shut down and I have to alt tab around to speed things up. Is this normal? and, Is there a faster way to shut down to get out of different applications? Thank you.
