This is probably because you are reading a document that somebody
scanned, as opposed to a document that was composed with Acrobat.  It is
not real text, just a picture of text.  Your screen reader will not read
it, just like it would not read a sign in a photograph.  You can try
performing OCR on the document with a program like Open Book or K1000 or
any OCR program that will convert the results to readable text, but your
milage will vary.  Sometimes that produces a readable document, but
often it just produces garbage.

Good afternoon everyone:
I was wondering if someone can help me with a small problem i am having
with adobe acrobat using it with jaws.  Every time i open up a abobe
acrobat pdf file it is telling me there is an empty doccument.  I am
using jaws version
9 with adobe acrobat reader 9.  Is there any settings i need to use to
get jaws to work properly with acrobat 9
