Those are background processes. They do not show up in the Running Applications List. They can still take focus away from an application at times. But they would not be in the rotation of applications to receive focus next if an application closes.

I have had this problem ever since I got a new laptop.  Of course, there
were too many variables in the upgrade to know the culprit.  I went from
XP
and JAWS 5.1 and Office to Vista, JAWS 9 and Office 2007.  Despite all of
these changes, I tend to blame this on running Karen's Replicator. It not
only runs in the system tray, it is an invisible and can be noticed by
pressing Insert F10. I figured this might confuse the focus issue when an
application closes.  Just a guess!  Do you have any invisible processes?
