What antivirus program are you using? An example of what could be happening: Norton had (or has) an 'office plug'in' in its misc. tab, which caused (or causes) problems of focus when office programs or documents are opened. The solution is to disable the office scanner plug-in. The antivirus general program should be adequate. If it's not of that, then some other program you now have that's running in the background is probably stealing focus at these times.
