have you lost sound? (The beeps might be coming through your PC speaker, which is different from your sound card.) Do you have a multimedia keyboard - that is, a keyboard with extra keys in a panel and then along a row, these above the row of function keys. (You might have touched the on/off key by accident.) If such is the case, you merely need to press that key again and the sound will come on. You may probably hear a click. However, if that is not it then there are other ideas of which you have already seen some. The more information we have (with which we can diagnose), the better.
