Hi Elaine;

Try these keystrokes below and see if they help.
To switch back and forth between documents while staying in Word, you can 
use alt + f6, or control +f6 besides alt, + tab.

Isn't there a windows command for switching from pane to pane? I was
thinking like the f6 which one uses when doing the help feature to switch
back and forth and thought this might work the same since the f6 is a
windows command and Word is windows based?

If that's not the right command then I would look for the windows hot keys
of whatever version you are using..
