Hi Elaine,
Using Insert command means you have a file somewhere to insert in the word doc that you have been created, eg picture, chart etc. The chart has to be done in Excel, which is very easy to do especially if you just doing basic chart. I have done Clait 1 and 2 plus, and as far as I know, we create charts using Excel and we can insert it in a word doc. However: somebody in the list might know how to create chart in the word who can help you.
Cheers,

Estelita

hiya

yep, in word not excel.

I open up a new blank document in word. then have to crate a chart by entering on insert, picture, chart. from the menus, so far ok...

this chart is the bar chart that we start off with. they call it a basic chart.

from what I've been told, you have two pains or windows open, one is the data sheet, the other is the chart. one is in front of the other.

I can't appear to switch between the two windows, I need the focus to be on the data sheet to insert data on the the data sheet, but need the other window to manipulate the chart. I've tried every trick in the book I know to get jaws to read both windows.

this is only one of about a million problems I've got.

so, on the data sheet, you have items down the left hand side, then a row of items across the bottom.

I can with hit and miss get jaws to read the items, but is is random.

so on the graph before inserting everything, it will have...

first quarter
second quarter
third quarter
fourth quarter

down the side of the chart.

across the bottom is:

north
south
east
west.
I'd paste in a chart here just not sure if jaws will read it, or not read it, in the same way it wont read it in word. if this makes any sense?

now where I've got the quarters and the compass positions, we are supposed to overtype them with other details, then change axes positions, then insert titles, then change that basic graph to a pie chart. then the run really begins, as then I've got to shade in segments of the pie, etc. it does get very complicated and is really winding me up.

this is why I need a digital copy, then I can just send items to the people who might be able to help. I'm getting so frustrated as I've managed to find other work around and also if I cant do these graphs I wont get my full certificate and I think that is just so unfair.

if it was for work etc then sure I can create graphs with other means, but for this course I have to use word.

I forgot to mention, I'm a fairly advanced user of jaws.

thanks for any help.

Elaine

Hi,
Do you mean you create graphs charts and pie charts within word doc, not in Excel? I do charts in Excel using office 2003 and so far I have no problem with it. Perhaps you can explain further what exactly you're doing and knowledgeable people here in the list might of good help.
Cheers,

Estelita

Hiya

firstly, just wanted to say hello as I've recently joined this list.

secondly, I wonder if anyone could either help me, or direct me to where I might find the answers I seek.

I am doing a course at college which entails me using Microsoft office. the version is 2003 we are using jaws 9.

Part of my course work is to create graphs, charts and pie charts within word.

I am really struggling to get jaws to read anything on a basic chart of any description, whether it be pie, flow or bar.

if I'm lucky, jaws will read north, south, east and west on a bar chart if I use the jaws cursor, but I cannot get either pc nor jaws cursor to the position to enter text within the correct fields.

does anyone know if there is a work around with jaws?

I am trying to get a digital copy of the manual, that's proving almost impossible too. at least then I could show people what I need to do.

I would be very grateful if anyone could help.

thanks

Elaine
