Hi Annette,
No, someone correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think there is a way to avoid the start up process because the computer is doing all kinds of setting up ready for use. I suggest your friend sit down with a sighted person who can help him out with setting up the computer. Most of the process is automatic, but you will neecd to set the country, date and time and also set up a password if you want one. ]
I hope this helps,
from Andrew

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Questions about JAWS & a laptop with VISTA

I have a friend who was given a Brand new Del Studio 17 laptop with VISTA
Premium, and he have a few questions about getting started.

When he turns the computer on for the first time, will he need to go through
a start up process that will ask him all types of questions? If so, is
there anyway to avoid this process since JAWS is not yet installed?

Will JAWS 8.x work with VISTA Home Premium?

Thanks,
Annette
