I use Karen Kenworthy's replicator program for just about all of my backup 
needs. I even did a tutorial on it a while back.

hi:
i just purchased a seagate 1.5tb drive.
it came with the seagate manager software but i didn't install it.
just left it on the drive.
using copy and paste, works just fine.
