Elaine- Is it possible that when re-installing 9, you had forgotten by then that after initially installing JAWS9 and before reformatting you had changed the default virtual cursor setting to 'from virtual cursor'? That change only began with version 9 and it would be easy to not have noticed or to forget that you had changed it.
