Not sure if this will work with a dell router, but putting 192.168.1.1 should get you in the router and enter admin for user and nothing for password. That is usually the default for all routers. Then if that lets you in go to wireless for the SSID and then wireless security for the wep key info. now if you got that info. Go on the laptop, control panel, network, network connections. it should show wireless. Right click and chose view available networks. If the SSID is listed, tab to it and arrow to it. now tab to connect. it will ask for that key info. if you got that far then your in and only thing now is if you have a firewallfairway. have to let it pass through that also.

Hi Tim, and everyone else on the list.

Thanks for your help, but I have another question. Can you please provide me with instructions on how too get into my router settings? Once that happens, how do I begin the setup process from there. Are the settings for the router on my desktop computer only? or are they also on my laptop computer as well. ----- Original Message ----- From: "tim" <[email protected]>

you need to go into the router settings. Two things in there you need to grab and right down somewhere.
1. The SSID, witch is what your router broadcasts to the computer.
2. The wep key, its the security that the router is set for and is easiest to get going, and still be secure.
now you can use the same settings for verizon as road runner.
If you do have problems with it, let me know if want. I do this for a living with verizon.

Good afternoon everyone.

About a year ago or so, a friend of mine who is a software engineer, came to my house too help me setup my router for wireless on my laptop computer. It's a dell router. My questions are as follows. First, is either the setup and configuration on my desktop computer as well as on my laptop? If so, where do I go on either my desktop computer, in order too find out what settings are in there. Second, can I use the same settings that were setup for Verizon, be configured for time warner road runner service, which is what I'm currently using now? Third, since I've never handled anything as complex as this, is it easy too accomplish? Fourth, How do I go about setting upthis router for wireless connection for me too be able too use on my laptop. Is there anyone on this list, who could provide me with step by step instructions on just how too go about doing it. I'm using jaws 10, with windows xp home addition with service pack three on both desktop computer, as well as dell laptop computer.
