It is more correct to say that JAWS is not speaking accented characters - it
recognizes them all right, but they are non-english. To change this, go
into the configuration manager, Set Options, Symbols & Graphics, and on the
first tab change the value perhaps to 'also say word'. You ought also to
specify what synthesizer you are using.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws not recognising accented letters

I recently upgraded to Jaws 10.0.1142 on a Windows XP pro computer. For
some reason Jaws is not recognising accented letters such as "n tilda" or "a
acute". In the name, Lucía, is not not "see the í and reads the name as Luc
a.

If anyone can point me to the setting that might correct this, I'd
appreciate it. I using Jaws with intermediate verbosity and highlighted
graphics.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.
