Actually, there are some new models of netbooks with 12 inch screens and built 
in DVD burners, but at that size and weight, they are becoming simply smaller 
laptops.

The reason  netbooks don't include a DVD burner is to keep the cost down. 
Netbooks are not designed to function as primary computers but rather as 
substitutes for a Blackberry or other personal digital assistant.

Actually there is. if a mac mini is only 6x, 6x,
2x inches, and comes with your choice cd burner or dvd burner.
Then ain't no reason why they can't slide one in.
