Hello Shikher,

JAWS can run from a thumb drive with a few restrictions. First of all, video intercept needs to be installed on the computer before JAWS can run on it. Freedom Scientific makes the Video Intercept file available for download along with the thumb drive version of JAWS. JAWS will run as a demo (40 minutes at a time) if the computer doesn't have a license of JAWS on it. If the computer already has a license of JAWS with video intercept installed then JAWS should work as a fully functional program on the computer. The video intercept file and the installation file for the JAWS thumb drive version can be downloaded from the JAWS download area of the Freedom Scientific site.

You can install Vista and XP on the same system. If you have separate partitions then they should have drive letters assigned to them. If not then you can assign drive letters to partitions through disk management. If the partitions have drive letters assigned then when you install the operating system just install it to a separate volume. There will be a menu when you start your computer for you to choose which operating system to load. There is a default waiting time of 30 seconds for your answer after which the system will default to one of the operating systems. You can change this waiting time and make it longer if you want to by going under the system choice in the control panel. In the system applet go to the advanced page. Open the startup and recovery settings and you will find a spin box where you can adjust the time the system waits before loading the default operating system.

If you haven't created the partitions then it becomes a little more tricky. It can be done from the command prompt in XP with the diskpart command and switches. In Vista, partitions can be shrunk and extended from within the disk management capabilities in Windows. If using XP there is a very good third party program for shrinking and extending partitions in XP. It is called "Disk Partition Manager" and is from Easeus, but it is not JAWS friendly. I have used it with sighted assistance.

I'm sure you know this, but as a word of caution you have to be extremely careful adjusting partition sizes as making a mistake could result in a lot of data loss.

     Take care.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] two another queries regarding portable jaws and dualbooting

hello to all
as clear from subject line, i've two queries.
01. like in NVDA(screen reader), it is not necessary to instal, in
other words, we only have to only instal in pen drive and we can
access any computer by that pen drive.
so my question is that can we do same with jaws and if yes then how?

02. i want to instal both XP and vista at my laptop and it's easy and possible.
but i want to keep both OS seperate from onne another's interection.
in other words, there are 4 partitions in my laptop. and i want two
for XP and another two for vista OS. and do not show me vista's two
partitions during running XP and XP partitions during running vista
OS.
it would prevent access to data and wwill prevent spreading virus.
so is it possible and how?

with regards
shikher
