Hi Flor, Lenny, & John,

Jaws / insert key, shift, +R eqals respond directly to sender.  I was 
screwing up because I wasn't tabbing down to the edit field after invoking 
the respond directly to sender keystroke.  Something about the responses 
made me think to  tab down and all is fine except for my major brain fart!

Mike, is that the correct key combination?  You wrote
"Insert, Shift R"
   When I try that I get a warning bell.
