Hello Chris and List, It is not correct that a broadband connection is needed to use skype.
I've only last week used skype versions 3.8 and 4 via a gprs connection with speed 460.8 kbps and was told that the voice output doesn't drag. I was obliged to use my cel phone via gprs as a modem and was able to establish a gprs connection via both my pc with skype 4 and a notebook with version 3.8. The notebook's internal microphone doesn't work well though, but there seems to be no loss in voice quality using a logitec USB headset. However, calls were dropped from time to time in lengthy skype cessions, although it happened less if the call was initiated from the side that was using a broadband connection. Years ago I've even used it on a dialup connection with spead 42.6 kbps, but then the voices drag much, making it sound like a flat battery used with a voice tape recording. For Skype you need a broadband or better internet connection, a microphone and a good PC. Windows XP works with Skype and so does JAWS 9, but you should get the free scripts from www.dlee.org/skype. Why not join the Skype English mailing list. I think the sub info is [email protected]. That way you've got a forum to ask Skype-related queries. Hope this helps. -- Chris Hallsworth e-mail: [email protected] MSN: [email protected] Skype: chrishallsworth7266 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Larry Stansifer" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, July 12, 2009 4:46 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Getting started with Skype and Jaws. > Hi Folks, > > I have been considering setting up a skype account however I > have no idea where to begin. > I guess the short version is how does it work? and what do I > need? > I am currently using windows XP-Pro and Jaws 9.current. > > TNX > > Larry > For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: > http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ NB: This email and its contents are subject to our email legal notice which can be viewed at http://www.doj.gov.za/about_web/disclaimer.htm If you are unable to access the Disclaimer, send an email request for the disclaimer to [email protected] and we will send you a copy of the Disclaimer.
