Hello Vicky,

I wasn't sure from your message if you want to convert a table to text or copy an entire table from a HTML document to word. If you want to convert a table to text in Word 2007 start by making sure the cursor is in the table. When you are working in a table there are two tabs added to the end of the top part of the ribbon, a design and a layout tab. The "convert table to text" command is on the lower part of the ribbon under the layout tab. If you use Alt followed by J followed by L followed by V you will bring up the convert to text dialog. You will be in a group of radio buttons that determine if you want to replace the cell divisions with tabs, commas or something else. You probably want tabs so just use the tab key to OK and press enter key.

If you were referring to copying an entire table to a Word document then while on the web page with the table or in the HTML document, move to the row that tells you how many columns and rows are in the table. If you want to copy the table and have it paste into the document in the format shown on the screen then you might want to go into verbosity first and change the document presentation from simple layout to screen layout. When on the line that tells you how many columns and rows are in the table press function key 8 to select the table. Copy it to clipboard using CTRL+C and paste it in your document using CTRL+V.

If after pasting the text you want to turn it into a Word table then first select all the text to be in the table. After selecting the text use Alt followed by N followed by T followed by V to bring up the convert text to table dialog. use up arrow to choose the number of columns. If you want to divide the cells using the vertical bar divider then tab to the group of radio buttons that determine where cells will be divided. JAWS will say "paragraph radio button." Use down arrow and when focus gets to the "other" radio button focus will jump into an edit box. Type in the vertical bar symbol (shift on backslash) and then tab to OK and press enter key. When done you will likely want to use a find and replace from the top of the document and remove the vertical bars.

Take care.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Turning tables into a Word document

I have a feeling that JAWS somewhere has a command to take a table's information and put it into a Word document, but I can't remember it or find it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? If you do, would you send the command or the procedure?

Many thanks! Vicky
