Hi Mike,
This is what the Word 2002 context help for it (shift+F1, then F8),
says:
Extend Selection
Turns extend mode on or off. In extend mode (EXT
appears on the status bar), you can extend the
selection using the arrow keys.
So, in essence, that's how it should work. You may need to look through
the tabs in Tools | Options, or else I don't know.
Troubleshoot selecting text
When I click the mouse or press a key, Microsoft Word automatically
selects text.
You may have turned on Extend Selection mode, which allows you to select
text by clicking the mouse or pressing navigation keys. When this mode
is active,
the letters "EXT" appear on the status bar. To cancel Extend Selection
mode, press ESC, and then click anywhere in your document.

Hi Flor,
I am running Word 2002 also, but when I press the F8 key to activate
the
text selection mode, then press the F8 key again to go from word, to
sentence, to paragraph, to document Jaws reads word or document . Am
I
trying to choose the text choice in which I want to select text
incorrectly?
If so, what are the correct keystrokes to use in text slection mode?
All
advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much. Take care.
Mike

Well, were there periods [full stops] in it as well? If so, I don't
know why sentences were not included in the order. If not, then I
have
explained it. (unless there is now a difference in Microsoft word
itself? I'm using word 2002. it's been word, sentence, paragraph,
document, since office 97 at least.)
