Hi Donald,
Yes, I did download and install Windows Live Mail, on my test machine, and 
so far,
it does seem to work okay, with an interface quite similar to Outlook 
Express.
I haven't had a chance to try the Security Essentials yet, but I'm looking 
forward to giving it a test run.

Hi Rick,

My urgency was to prepare for Windows 7.  However, both the Live Essentials
and Security Essentials work just as well in Vista and XP.
