This is true, for the most part. I have found, that some USB items, require to be plugged directly into my laptop and do not run properly, if they are plugged into a hub. Musical USB plugs had to be tried over and over, until everyone would work.

Please, don't think me sour. I just thought these things should be considered, in such an important decision.

If the majority of items that you will be connecting and disconnecting use a
USB connection, you can consider using a USB hub. This will allow you to
unplug one item while the 4 or so items are still connected to the hub.

One thing to consider about using a laptop, are all the things you may want
to connect to it. Unless you are very good at replugging all those things
in, it will remain on your desk.

I had thought the way to go, was to have a docking station, into which all
my add ons could be plugged, so that my laptop could access them, while it
was connected and yet be able to get up and go.

The problem with that, was when I wanted to upgrade to a new laptop, it
would not be able to use the same docking station. I was going to half to
up grade it as well, even though I was sticking with the same brand and that
added considerably to the cost.

Suzie, I now have a lap top, it's called a desk top replacement, because
it has a big screen, which I don't use, because I can't see it, but it has

a wonderful keyboard with a num pad built right in. I know a lot of blind
folks say you don't need the num pad, and perhaps you don't, but at least
look at the lap top with the larger screen if you want the num pad built
right in to the keyboard, like your disk top is now. Jim
