Hi Exactly, unfortunately I don't have a minimal Debian VM at the moment. I will look into creating my own VM when I've got the time, but in the meantime I just use Vinux which are an Linux distro based on Debian and aimed towards visually impaired.
There are already a pre-built VM of Vinux here: http://vinux.org.uk/downloads/old/2.0/Virtual-Edition/Vinux-2.0-Virtual-Edit ion.exe This VM will boot up in X with GNOME and Orca will start talking. I don't care about the GUI, so to be able to switch to the text console using ctrl-alt-f1 I had to add the following to my VMware preferences file: pref.hotkey.gui = "false" pref.hotkey.shift = "true" pref.hotkey.control = "true" pref.hotkey.alt = "true" C:\documents and settings\username\application data\vmware\preferences.ini So now, once the Vinux VM boots up I press ctrl-alt-f1 to switch to the text console, and alt-f1 - alt-f6 to switch between the virtual consoles. Or just use alt-left/right arrows and alt-f7 if you of some reason need X... -----Original Message----- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Jeronimo Schöber Sent: 26. desember 2009 10:35 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] No cursor in putty Hi, could you maybe provide me with a minimal linux vm that I could play using vmware player? I only need brltty and ssh since the linux box is under my desk and it would be convinient to not switch keyboard and braille display since I need both machines at the same time. Debian with very minimal installation would be sufficient. Use Cygwin instead. I've been using Cygwin for quite a long time with Jaws and I have discovered that it's not perfect either. But it sure does work much better. I then installed BRLTTY to handle Braille instead of Jaws when using Cygwin, but of some reason I got issues with the libusb filter witch broke my Jaws Braille... So now I've ditched Cygwin, Jaws etc and use a Virtual Machine instead when I need Unix/Linux. So far so good. It's working very well. It's not as good as using Linux natively, but it's the best way (for me at least ) when I don't have a "real" Linux/Unix machine available. -----Original Message----- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Jeronimo Schöber Sent: 26. desember 2009 07:58 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] No cursor in putty Hello, is there anyone using putty (an ssh and telnet client). I don't see the cursor on the command line which is essential in using command lines. Or is there any alternative program which does display the cursor on the command line using Jaws?
