Hello,
you will receive an e-mail when I have the time to do the changes to my router. I think the squeezebox classic has a toslink connection and the squeezebox receiver which is a part of the duet but can be had allone has a dac to. However I think you only get 48kbit. For 96khz you would need the transporter which is an other price range. By the way. These devices play the mysterious and unknown file extensions that we are discussing right now. What are they called? flac!
... :-D
Cheers
Jeronimo

Hi

If I connect Winamp etc to http://yoursqueezeboxserver:9000/stream.mp3. then
the sound will go through my PC's soundcard.
Not optimal.

I have a large collection of music stored in FLAC which I want to transfer
digitally (bitperfect to the DAC and then to my HiFi)
I do this now using a soundcard which support bitperfect streams over
toslink, but I really want to use a squeezebox.
The squeezebox/squeezebox server supports bitperfect streaming over toslink
and coax.
This is the preferred method for a semi-audiophile guy like me :)

So if I can use the screenreader theme to operate the squeezebox I would be
very happy.
This will allow me to both test the internal DAC inside the squeezebox and
my external DAC using toslink from the squeezebox.

I would really like to have a look at the squeezebox server web interface.
I don't use skype, sorry.

Send me an e-mail off-list with the details.
If you really want to be paranoid I can send you my IP, so you can only
allow my IP access :)

e-mail: oyvind (dot) lode (at) gmail (dot) com

Do the obvious changes to the e-mail above and drop me a line.
Remove spaces and so on...
This is to avoid e-mail bots etc, you probably get it :)

Thanks!

Hi,
the screenreader directory should be available in any case. Regarding
desktop software...
There is a software emulation of the squeezebox. This is called softsqueeze
and is largely java based. So I don't think it is accessible.
However if you want to try squeezebox server without actually having a
logitech/slimdevices music player you could connect your favourite media
player to
http://yoursqueezeboxserver:9000/stream.mp3.
Then the ip of the computer running the player appears as a player in the
list of available players.
There are more skins available. /pda /classic /nokia770 are some that I have

used.
If you like I could open my servers interface to the wild wild web. If you
have skype we could have a chat while you look at it.

Regards
Jeronimo

Is the /screenreader theme/directory available on all installations?
Or do I have to install it first?

You also mentioned a desktop software is available.
Is this app accessible with JAWS?

Hello,
try http://yoursqueezeboxserver:9000/screenreader
There a lots of different skins for squeezeboxserver formerly squeezecenter
or slimserver.
Currently I use a Thecus N5200 to run squeezecenter 7.3. This is a raid nas
box with five hard disk drives and raid5.
I don't care about speech while I am listening to music. Normally I just
select a song and then the speech falls silent again.
Disabling refreshing in jaws is an option.
Or if you don't need the web interface just leave the window.
Cheers
Jeronimo

Hi Jeronimo:

I tested the web interface (squeezecenter) a while ago.

I found it hard to read (Braille) which track is currently playing etc.
The page was refreshing very frequently, of obvious reasons...

I think I remember you as a Braille user as well.
So I would love to know how you fix this.

Currently I transfer all music over a toslink (bitperfect from Winamp) to my
DAC.
Winamp enables me to read and operate the playlist etc just using Braille
and my keyboard.

I find it very cumbersome to listen to JAWS speaking when I am listening to
music, so I disable speech.
The music audio stream is from a secondary sound card of course.

This solution works great, but I would love to run Squeezecenter on a Linux
fileserver and stream it over my LAN.

Hi,
I use squeezebox server along with a squeezebox classic made by logitech.
It streams music to all my rooms and it has a costomizable web interface
that works well with jaws. There are a lot of plugins.
There is also a software version of the player but I can not tell a lot
about this.
Regards
Jeronimo

Hi, I was wondering if there's another program besides ITunes that
will take music and put it into folders for you. I never bothered to
do this and now my music collection is really getting out of hand, so
it would look a lot nicer if it was in folders by artist. I know
ITunes has made a lot of progress in the accessibility area, but I
still find it quite cumbersome (having to use the Jaws cursor to
adjust options etc.) not to mention a resource hog what with all the
extra crap it installs. If there is an alternative that would do what
I'm looking for, that's maybe not so hard to get used to, I would
really appreciate hearing about it.
thanks,
Desiree
