Which kind of old Braille display?

I have hooked up my old Braille Lite as a display using a usb-to-serial converter just for jollies. I assume when you refer to a USB adapter, that is what you are referencing. You need to go into the USB-to-Serial converter port settings which you would find under your system, device manager, ports settings and make sure they match the serial communications parameters on your Braille display.

But, I haven't tried it on a Windows 7 PC.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] JAWS11 WINDOWS 7 AND BRAILLE DISPLAYS

I am running jaws11, windows 7, and office 7 on an HP Pavilion laptop. I
have an old Braille display which now connects to my old computer with a
serial cable.

Since the laptop does not have a serial port, I bought a usb 9 pin male
adapter hoping to get my Braille display, a powerbraille 40 to work with my
new laptop.

It will not work. JAWS tech support seemed clueless.

Is there a work-around? or will I have to run this laptop without a Braille
display, unless I buy a new one?

Respectfully,
