The program that you are referring to is updated and run once a month, when
MS pushes out the Windows updates. It will do a scan of the system and
remove any known threats.
You absolutely need good anti-virus protection running on your computer at
all times. I really like the Microsoft Security Essentials, as it does a
good job, uses very little processor overhead and is free and easy to
install. I have been using it with all of my customers for the past five
months, with no issues.
I also strongly recommend running a Malwarebytes scan once a week, just in
case anything happens to slip by.
