Thanks so much Brian Lee! I sure didn't realize that all 3 types of
silencing punctuation were needed. I had tried these individually, of
course with no success.
Will all these be needed with the Real Speak voices?
Many thanks! Vicky

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] No punctuation during "Say All"
Hi Vicky,
The first thing you can do is set verbosity level for punctuation in Word
to
"none." Use JAWS key with V while in Word, press the letter "p" until you
hear the choice for punctuation spoken and then press spacebar until the
"none" choice is announced. (The JAWS key is the insert key on the number
pad with the number lock in the off position or the caps lock key in
laptop
configuration). Press enter key after making "none" your choice.
The second step will be to make sure JAWS is being used for controlling
punctuation and not the given synthesizer. Open the JAWS configuration
manager for Word. While in a Word document use JAWS key with the number
6,
(which is above and slightly left of the letter "y." When the
configuration
file for Word opens use Alt key with S to move focus into the set options
menu. Use down arrow key to the "text processing" menu choice and press
enter key to bring the "text processing" dialog box into focus. Use tab
key
until you find the "punctuation mode" combo box and if the "controlled by
JAWS" choice is not announced then use down arrow key until you hear that
choice spoken. Press enter key to accept the choice.
Even with the punctuation level set to "none" in verbosity you will still
hear some punctuation announced. Examples are the colon, semicolon,
parentheses, brackets and braces, less than and greater than signs, and
others. You will also still hear some special symbols announced such as
different types of bullets. You can make changes to most of the
punctuation
marks in the "custom punctuation" dialog box. While in the Microsoft Word
2007 configuration file go back into the set options menu by pressing Alt
key with the letter "S." Press the letter "p" to move focus directly into
the custom punctuation dialog. In the list of punctuation and symbols you
can press the punctuation mark to move directly to the marks you want to
change. For example, pressing a colon will move you directly to that
choice. Even though it is set on a higher level than "none", it is still
announced even when verbosity is set to the none level. Press spacebar
until the "all" choice is spoken. Find the open parenthesis by pressing
shift with the number 9, (which is above and slightly to the right of the
letter o). Set it to the all choice as well. You can also just use up
and
down arrow keys in the list to move to the various punctuation marks or
certain symbols and set the level to "all" for those you don't want to
hear
spoken. Setting as many of these choices that you don't want spoken to
the
"all" level should achieve the desired result. When you are finished
making
changes use tab key to the OK button and press enter key. Use the control
key with S to save changes. Use Alt key with function key 4 to close the
configuration manager.
The "customize punctuation" dialog box also contains a "restore defaults"
button that can be used to undo customized punctuation settings. However,
using it will undo other customization you have done to punctuation
announcement for the specific program. Remember to use CTRL with S after
making changes and before closing the configuration manager.
JAWS uses changes you make in the customize punctuation dialog box for the
SayAll reading mode.
Take care.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] No punctuation during "Say All"
Hi Folks, I will be installing the Real Speak voices, but don't have them
now.
Under this condition, is there a way to turn off absolutely all
punctuation
during the reading of a Word document with Say All?
I am using the latest Jaws 10 and Word 2007.
Many thanks! Vicky
