If you want to stick to a free, no hassle antivirus/antimalware solution, I would recommend Microsoft's Security Essentials. It is completely accessible, uses little resources, and stays out of the way. The definition updates are handled by Windows Update for reliability and convenience. Since your habits and quickly performing Operating System and Browser security updates through Windows Update is actually more important than the antivirus scanner to reduce risk of infection, tieing definitions to Windows Update makes sense.

There are a few solutions that possibly catch more nasties, but if your habits are risky and / or this keeps you up at night, you would probably be better off with a paid product.

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] avast accessibility

Hi. That's fair enough, I've tried many sollutions trend micro, AVG, avast, Nod32, bit defender, etc etc. Avast is good for me because customers want a free alternative and normally install their own anti-virus anyway, but alot of blind people i know use Avast mostly through choice as far as i'm aware. I'm not saying its definitively the best, but it keeps most viruses at bay or has done on many pc's i've used it on. I just thought i'd write to the people at avast so they were aware of the issues being encountered, and post here for reference.

All the best,

Mo.
