perhaps your best bet may be to have someone with sight view the screen when this is happening. Perhaps there's some screen magnification setting at work. Settings in Control panel | Accessibility Options | Display, might be a good place to probe. You might also want to look at windows settings, in the Appearance tab of Control panel | Display. NVDA = Non Visual Desktop Access - get that? It lived up to its name. .

Hi Flor;

I tried NVDA and I was able to read character by character what Jaws wasn't
able to read character by character. Everything seems to be okay when
writing. I truly appreciate your input.

Mike,

besides JAWS, do you have any other self-voicing apps (Openbook, or some
other) that will read character by character, see if this behaviour is
duplicated then? One thought is that this might be a video card issue.
How about when you're writing, is everything ok then?

Hello Sir;

Thank you for your response and confirming what I thought about how
key
repeat works. Here is a better explanation of what is happening. If
I copy
a URL into the address bar and invoke the say line keystroke Jaws will
read
it just fine. If I press the Home key Jaws will keep repeating the
first
letter of the URL. If I press the right arrow, Jaws will keep
repeating
that letter, until I press the right or left arrow and Jaws will keep
repeating whatever letter is highlighted. Pressing the control key
will not
stop Jaws from speaking. The only way to stop Jaws at this point is
pressing the escape key. I can read a URL character by character in
an
email or if I paste it into Notepad just fine. I have went into
manage
applications settings and disabled everything. The problem is still
there
after disabling everything in the manage applications settings
dialogue box.
I hope you or someone has some ideas on how I can correct this issue
because
it is annoying as hell! LOL
Oh, it also does the character repeat in My Documents if I press the
F2 key
to change the name of a folder. Thanks again, take care.
Mike

Hi Mike,

Just to clear up something. the key repeat feature has nothing to do
with this issue. Key Repeat has to do with when you press and hold
down, say, an arrow key, it continues to move. I wonder if you have
the
keyboard cursor voice active as well as the PC cursor voice?
(Something
I've never delved into.)

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws keeps repeating

iHi All;

I am trying to set up a computer I inherited, kind of. Anyway, Jaws
keeps
repeating characters when I try to read Character by character. For
example; If I copy a web address and paste it into the address bar
then,
try to read the URL Character by character Jaws will keep repeating
the
characters each time that I left or right arrow. It does this when I
am
trying to do a couple of other tasks also but, can't think if off the
top of
my head at the moment. I have key repeat unchecked in the
configuration
manager. I am running XPSP3 Pro & Jaws10 latest on this machine.
How
do I
stop Jaws from repeating characters when reading character by
character?
All help will be greatly & graciously appreciated. Thanks much.
Take
care.
Mike
