Hello Chris, There is a free Daisy translator program for Word. If you install it there will be a "save as daisy" menu with a submenu in the Office menu, as well as an additional tab on the Office 2007 ribbon. There is also a free Pipeline download. I am using Windows 7 and for some reason, the narrator to TTS portion of this plug-in doesn't seem to work right. However the creation of the Daisy file is done with this plug-in. I use the plug-in to create the Daisy file and then I use Pipeline to get the TTS working correctly. I haven't tried the plug-in on other computers that run Windows 7 32-bit or with earlier versions of Windows, so it very well might do the TTS portion correctly, I am not sure. However, the Pipeline does it well with the Daisy book created by the plug-in. Links to the free Word to Daisy plug-in and the Pipeline program, as well as an update for the Pipeline program (patch), are shown below.
I think that you use Windows 7 64-bit. If so, you might have difficulty changing the TTS default voice on your system. Here is how you can do it. 1. Press Windows key with R to bring up the run box. 2. Type in or paste the following: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Speech\SpeechUX\sapi.cpl 3. Tab to OK and press enter key. 4. Your system will open in a list of voices in the text-to-speech page where you can change the default voice being used. Here are the links for the Word to Daisy plug-in, the Pipeline program and an update patch for Pipeline. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3951772/DaisyTranslatorWordAddin.zip http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3951772/PipelineGUI20100125Win.exe http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3951772/PipelineUpdate2010%200527.zip Take care. Hello all, I read with interest somebody creating a document in DAISY format. Does anyone know of a free program that will let me do such DAISY files? I have Kurzweil 1000 already, and if no other solutions are available I will just use that. Using JAWS 10 and 11 on a Windows 7 Professional 32 bit laptop. Many thanks in advance. -- Signed by Chris Hallsworth E-mail and Facebook: [email protected] MSN: [email protected] Skype: chrishallsworth7266 Twitter: http://twitter.com/christopherh40 Klango: chrishallsworth If you have any computer problems or queries, please do not hesitate to contact me on the above channels.
