Huh, strange. I'm using a external Dectalk serial synthesizer with Jaws 12
Beta as I type this. Look in your Jaws utilities, synthesizer and Braille
manager. I don't, of course, have serial ports on this modern PC, so I use
a USB-to-serial converter, but as far as Jaws is concerned, it is a serial
synthesizer running on comm3.

The beta version of JFW 12 does not have support for the external
Dec-Talk synthesizer.
Will that support be included with the final release?
I have grown accustomed to my Dec-Talk and still feel that it is more
responsive then the sound card synthesizers.
