I found that when you entered on typing echo words it will change it for you.  
I had a bit of trouble with that as well.  So when you hear typing echo words 
then you enter, and then it will say typing echo words and characters.  If you 
don't want that, then enter again.  I tried the control shift d but it didn't 
work until I went into the setting centre.
