The following is a short list of programs that I consider quite important.

These are programs that go in to each and every basic image I create. It occurs to me that I might need to put 7 on one of these systems here since I am running in to more support calls. I did duck Vista pretty well but 7 is far more popular, and from what I can see more useful than Vista at least to my minimal experience.
