Hi Jewel,

google for .bak to .dbx for solutions. Now here's one that may get you started, and could possibly work. (In future, after being fixed up, put all folders at the same level as the Inbox, i.e., under Local Folders, and not as subfolders of the Inbox.) .

Try the following:

1. With Outlook Express open, create a new folder. Perhaps with the same name but with a number after the name. Thus, if it were the Inbox, the new
one would beInbox1, or Inbox1.dbx.

2. Close outlook Express.

3. In Windows Explorer or the Run dialogue: Go to the locationn of the nonrecognized .dbx, and copy (or cut) the
content of the .dbx to the clipboard. (See how much data did this file
have?)

4. now, again in Windows Explorer or through the Run dialogue, or however you got there outside with outlook Express closed, , go the location of your
newly created folder (with the number before the period). Paste the
clipboard content . Also, How much data does it have?

5. Reopen outlook Express and go to the newly created folder.

6. Any positive?

Subject: [JAWS-Users] An Outlook Express question

One has to limit one's subscription list, so I do not belong to blind
computering.
All my self-generated folders in OE6 have disappeared. They were there a
few days ago, but now all I have are the default folders of in and out
boxes, sent, draft and deleted items.
I went to the recycle bin and I do see what appears to be those lost folders
there with a .bak extension.

The application/context key accompanied by the letter e, the usual keystroke for restoring files or folders to their source root doesn't work, and there
seems to be nothing in the view menu of OE6 that will fix the problem.
The computer asks me from time to time if I would like them to be compacted? If I ignore the question, I am asked it every time I shut the computer down, so, merely to shut the damned thing up, I say "yes". Could these compacted folders be all the ones I see in the recycle bin with the .bak suffix? and if so, how can I read them and get them into a folder[s where they will be
protected from kidnapping?

        Jewel
