You might have that option in the battery power savings options and you might have it in the function keys options, the ability to dim the screen.

One other way to help increase your battery life, that works for blinks,
is that we can set the screen brightness to it's lowest setting.  At
least, on my laptop, there is a hot key to change the brightness, so if I
need a sighted person to take a look, I can just bump the brightness back
up.
