Try the hash sign and numbersign? As well as not being able to
'duplicate' your issue, did FS give you the proper procedure for
inputting a number into a password using contracted braille input - on
the Focus 40 Blue? I can understand how a number sign would be
misinterpreted as a ble contraction, but, in a computer logic, I don't
know how you'd tell the machine using contracted braille to make an
exception that does not apply in all circumstances.
You'd need to turn off both contracted braille input and output to get
"computer Braille", via the Settings Center, or braille Options General
Translation.

Hi. I forgot mention that I did an experiment. I used thenumber sign in
the username of a website and t showedup as the ble contraction. I also
just discovered then when I unplug the USB cord it doesn't switch right
back to the bluetooth connection. I'm not sure if I just have silly
computer issues or what. Thanks for your help I appreciate it.

I don't think uninstalling and reinstalling would change that. perhaps
you could contact FS about the problem and let's see how they solve it.
My initial thought was that the # sign was being seen as braille 'ble'.
It shouldn't have something to do with it, but did you merge JAWS12 with
a previous JAWS? then, you just might need to uninstall and reinstall
JAWS if that's the problem. My brailleNote doesn't operate the braille
input modes properly, probably because it's a QT model anyway.

Hello and thanks for getting back to me. Admittedly I haven't tried that
new hash sign, but if it thinks the number sign is an extra character
wouldn't it think the same of the other dots? I hope I'm not installing
something wrong, because others who've had focus displays not the blue,
say they can enter numbers just fine. Would I be better to uninstal the
display itself and start over? if so, how do I go about removing that? I
didn't see how in the Braille options. Thanks for all of your help. One
last question, how do I change to computer Braille for the password then
back to contracted for everything else?

have you tried inputting it [the number] with the new hash sign, i.e.,
dots 456-1456 then 3456 dot1? You might, however, instead need to input
the whole password in computer braille.

andjaws.
Hello all. I’ll get right to the point. I have a Focus 40 blue that I
like very much but am having problems using it on a website. The area I’m
having an issue with is when entering numbers for instance in a
password setting. I have it set to contracted imput and output in the
Braille settings of Jaws 12 latest build, and it’s also crucial to note
that I am having this issue whether or noti’m bluetooth connected, or on
USB. When I enter a password, say gooddog1 the issue is how to get Jaws
and the site to recognize that this is a number. I’ve been told to do
everything from try a dropped number, to using a number sign also I’ve
used dot four, or dots four seven and none of these seem to work. These
were all suggestions by other Braille display users. My system for those
who may need to know: is a dell Studio xps 1340 windows seven sixty four
bit home Premium edition. If you can help I’d appreciate it. I hope this
was clear, if not please mail me off list if you need further
information.
