Also, the Wikipedia Research It often fails when I click on the link
which says to click here for full article. The Wikipedia page I tend to
often receive isn't the same one the info in the Research It tool gave
me. Only when I do a Google search with my term and wikipedia as the
search words, and go to the search hit, do I find myself reading what
the Research It tool gave me. Obviously the tool's getting the info
from Wikipedia, but the link behind the Click here for full article
can't be the URL the tool referenced, or else it would match up every
time. Someone at FS should have noticed this by now if they're actually
testing their software as rigorously as they should be. Part of
software maintenance is to constantly test it and fix problems before
users have to find and report them.
I allegedly reported a Text Analyzer bug to them using the bug report
form when the JAWS 12 beta came out, within days of its release, in
fact, and they never did address the bug in any of the patches. I had
to report the bug through their tech support just the other day.
Apparently one of those cases where the bug report system must just be
giving me one of those confirmation messages, but it doesn't guarantee
my submission was actually received, which is why I said allegedly reported.
I can understand FS can't find every bug on their own, but some bugs are
very obvious if one just does some basic testing, and this Wikipedia
problem and the Text Analyzer bug I found are basic things as far as
this software developer's concerned. I just expect my software to be as
bug free as possible without my having to do someone else's job,
especially when I'm paying for software maintenance.
You do suggest a good option for FS to consider, having several similar
websites for each source, when this is possible. This would perhaps cut
down on the number of patches they otherwise have to release trying to
work around broken sources due to website changes.

A possibly more durable solution, then, wouldn't you think, would be
for FS to use more than one Web site for each search; and to instruct
Research It, when finding that primary site doesn't work, try the
specified alternative(s).

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Research It in Jaws
I notice that quite a few people write the list about Research It not
working from time to time.
The most likely cause for this, is that website information used in
Research It has changed.
Jaws relies on specific information from each site to be available,
and when the website in question changes that information,
the Research It utility fails to work correctly.
This is why FS will have to continually update Jaws in order for
Research It to work.
Whenever you have a problem retrieving information using this
utility, and you will , simply contact FS to make them aware of the
problem.
I'm not bashing FS, I'm just pointing out why folks that use Research
It experience these problems.
Personally, I prefer using Internet Explorer since the same
information can be obtained from the individual sites that Research
It accesses.
So, if Research It fails to get the information you are looking for,
try going to the corresponding website and getting it.

Rick Justice
