Hi Brad

Try the following.
1. Open the Word configuration manager.
2. Go down to Text Processing & right arrow to open.
3. Arrow down to General & right arrow to open.
4. Arrow down to Enhanced Edit Support, if this box is checked, press 
spacebar to uncheck it.
5. Tab to okay & press enter to save your changes & close.

  I'm on  an XP Pro machine with Service Pack 3 running JFW 12 and
  MS  Office 2003. Its done that for a long time but I thought maybe
  V12  might have fixed it but maybe its not  an issue for others.
