Hi Rick Sorry for these stupid questions but I am stuck and my wife is not very computer literate. It seems that you know much about these technmical matters. After I installed win 7 and it restarted I noticed that there was not that familiar windows sound. Do you think it can be the volume which is muted or turned down. What worries me is that my wife says that there is A picture on the system tray which indicates that no speaker or headphone is plugged in, although my speakers are plugged in. It is an onboard realtech sound card. I tried to activate the windows narator but there is still no speech. Any suggestions will be helpful. Regards Fanus
