Hi all,
This is David and I have a question.
I went to the web visum site and registered. I received a post from the web
master telling me to confirm.
IIt said to click on the link provided but I assume there is a captcha there
but can not find it.
It simply said to reply to the link which I did but have heard nothing
since.
Thanks,
David Hardingham

Hi Ann Marie;
With FF, use the keystroke, control + L, to open a new web page. Control +
O, is for opening files. Below are several notes that I have put together
that can be very helpful when using Firefox.
There is a summary of all the notes at the bottom of this reply.

Hi All,
When I am using IE & type in a URL, I only have to type,
www.jaws-users.com,
but, when I am running Firefox, I have to type,
http://www.jaws-users.com.
Can anyone tell me if there is something I can check or uncheck in Firefox
that will put in the http:// for me automatically like IE does? All advice
will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much, take care.
Mike
Hi Adrian,
Thank you very much for this very helpful information. I figured out what I
was doing wrong. I was pressing,Control + O, for webpages, instead of,
Control
+ L. For those who might not know what I am talking about. In Internett
Explorer when you want to open a new webpage you invoke the Control + o,
keystroke,
then type in the URL where you want to go & press enter or, control + enter.
In Firefox you invoke the, Control + L, keystroke, then type in the URL you
want & press enter or, control + enter. Invoking the Control + O, keystroke
in Firefox, is the keystroke for opening specific files. Thanks again, take
care.

Skip both the http and ww prefixes and press control-enter after you type
the website name. This works in Firefox only. I just checked with this
address, and it worked.

Hi Mike,
How are you doing?
Just wanted to let you know that in internet explorer, you do not need to
type in the www. when you open a new web site. An example of this is:
jaws-users.com
I learned this wen I was teaching JAWS. The student typed in the address
without the WWW. and I went to correct him and he had hit enter and the
computer went to the site.
Take care,
Kathy

In both browsers I use a shortcut. Just type in the "jaws-users"
portion of the address (without the quotes) and hit Control + Enter.
This will prefix the necessary "
http://www."
and append the ".com"
portions of the address. This however, only works with ",.com" addresses.

I just press F6 to get to the address bar to enter a new address. This
works in IE and Firefox.

Hi, Mike.
That's right, but I think it works only if it's a commonly visited website
or one in your history. Let's see if I can summarize what we've discussed,
with some additional information that has come to mind.
1. Control-l brings up the edit field in which to type a Web address in both
IE and Firefox. Control-o does the same in IE but not FF. So using control-l
in both cases avoids confusion.
2. In Firefox, you can save yourself having to type the
http://www.
Prefix
and .com if you just write the Website name and press control-enter. This
shortcut works only for .com addresses.
3. In most cases, it isn't necessary to write
http://www.
Before the Website
address whether in IE or FF. However, it may be necessary to write www.
Before addresses that are rarely visited and/or aren't in your history.
Also, beware of addresses that don't begin http://, such as high security
websites.
Is that a fair summary?
Adrian
Hope this has helped. Take care.

Well I just did maintenance on my PC running Jaws 12 and XP Pro. I still
need to do a few more steps but needed to work on PC.
I notice that with FF one needs to type the entire URL name? Am I right
on
that?
I tested freedom scientific because I figure their link would have all
accessibility stuff.
I control+o and typed Freedomscientific.com and link not found. I tried
several and then realized I need to precede link name with
http://www.freedomscientific.com
I went on other sites and Jaws was very clumbsy so I'd thought it could be
a
mainntenance issue.
I did get Webvisum to work by typing alt+control+6 and Webvisum stated to
wait then infomation could be copied from clipboard. So FF6 worked for me
but I only need to use FF when I encounter a
CAPTCHA. But I'll keep working on learning FF because I know many who
prefer Firefox to IE.
Thanks again.
Ann
