Hi margaret,

When I right arrow to open speech verboscity & arrow down 1 time I get,
verboscity level, beginner highest. This is where you press the spacebar
until you hear advanced then, tab to apply, tab to okay & press enter /
spacebar. But, if you arrow down 2 times you get, configure verboscity
levels, & if you right arrow to open this, you will hear beginner.....!

I did notice that applying the changes was necessary before okaying them to
make the changes hold.

Let us know if you have any more problems or if you were able to make your
changes. Take care.
Mike

Re:Changing How JAWS 12 Says ListNamesinWLM2011Headings

  Hi Mike,

All went well with your instructions to change verbosity to Advanced in
JAWS 12 until step 4: "4. Arrow down 1 time & you might hear, verbosity
level beginner highest."

JAWS Just says beginner. Pressing space once results in Application Start
Message checked one of 21 or some number like that instead of the expected
something about intermediate with a second press saying advanced. I did see
a button to restore defaults, but didn't choose it.

When I didn't get the expected results, I decided to see if JAWS 12 was
still saying dot dot dot after basic etc. and it just said basic. Maybe the
JAWS fairies went to work overnight. I know I rebooted last night before I
sent my post.

With 12, how can I check the verbosity level? I think I saw something in
the training section on working with the new setting center and it might be
worth a listen. I'll take a look for it and the other 12 training materials
after lunch and some caffeine.

  Margaret

  Hi Margaret,

  To set Jaws to the Advanced option do the following;

  1. Press Insert + 6 on the numbrer row above the main keyboard, to open
the
Settings Center then, press control, shift, + D, to open the default
  settings center for all applications.
  2. Arrow down to Speech Verboscity & press right arrow to open.
  3. Arrow down to configure verboscity levels & press right arrow to open.
  4. Arrow down 1 time & you might hear, verboscity level beginner highest.
Press the spacebar 2 times or, until you hear Jaws read, advanced, lowest.
  5. Tab to apply, press the spacebar, tab to okay, & press enter / spacebar
to save the changes & close the Settings Center.

  To set your punctuation for some, do the following;
  1. If you run Jaws from the system tray, press insert / Jaws key + J, for
  the context menu
2.A. Press the letter H, for Help, then press the letterZ, for the
start-up
wizard, tab to the punctuation option, & you will be in a combobox so
arrow
up to some, . Now, tab through the start-up wizard making any other
changes
if necessary, press the spacebar each time you get to a next button until
you
get to the finish button, & pressing the spacebar on finish to save any
changes & close the start-up wizard.

  B. If you don't run Jaws from the system tray, Alt + tab, until you land
on
the Jaws window. Press the Alt key & Jaws should read options. Now,
right
arrow to help, uparrow to start-up wizard, & press enter. Now follow the
rest of steps in step 2.A.

  Hope this helps. Take care.
  Mike

    Hi All,

I tried making changes in voices again and may have finally gotten it.
JAWS seems to also no longer be saying colon after fwd and parentheses
before and after another list that uses parentheses instead of brackets in
the subject field which I also wanted to accomplish. I apparently wasn't
successful in getting JAWS 12 changed to Advanced since it is saying dot
dot
dot after Basics etc., but any progress is good.

Thanks to everyone who is helping me tame the new beast.

    Earlier, I wrote:

    John and All,

When I started trying to get JAWS 12 not to say left bracket etc.
Insert -V from the message list view had most for punctuation. Changing
it
to none or some gets it to work temporarily, but I haven't been able to
find
the proper item in the Settings Center yet to make it permanent. Changing
the setting in voice in options with Insert-J that I understood to be
another list member's suggestion didn't seemed to have worked, but I might
  have messed up.

I'm pretty sure while I was looking in the Settings Center that I was
able
to change verbosity to Advanced, which was one of the things I wanted to
do.

I'm going to take a break.

Any more instructions for making the change permanent would be great.

Margaret, let me try and help.
In jaws 12 and 13 you will need to use the new configuration facility.
    1. While in your "in box", hold down the insert key and press the letter
  "v"
    as in victor.
    2. you are in the quick settings tree view. down arrow through the
  various
controls and when you get to a control you think you need to change, tab
once to read the jaws help. Usually, if you want to change an item, you
enter on it to check or uncheck an item.
    see if this helps.

    2011Headings

    Hi All,

Trying to switch from XP Home to 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium with a
new
version of JAWS, a different e-mail client , synth, and new keyboard at
  the
same time has totally fried my brain and I need some help please with
    something that should be simple.

In Windows Live Mail 2011 and JAWS 12 with Eloquence, JAWS is speaking
brackets, parentheses, etc. in the names of lists that appear in the
  subject
field and, at least for now, I'd like to hear only the names without the
    extraneous symbols being spoken.

    For example, JAWS says
left bracket JAWS dash users right bracket in the subject field for this
    list. For now, only hearing

    JAWS Users

would make me very happy. I think I have Advanced Verbosity set, but I
can't remember if brackets, parentheses are included in punctuation or
  not.
I know I used to be able to use the JAWS dictionary to have list names
not
speak at all, but I want to see how it goes hearing them minus the
extraneous stuff. Do I still do it with the JAWS dictionary or is there
some setting somewhere to accomplish it? JAWS 10 on the XP home is
saying
    it the way I prefer

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Margaret
